You can often tell whether or not a professional is updating the images on a web site just by looking at the pictures; novices usually just insert photos onto a web page and then try to size them to fit. This results in good designs that are ruined by pictures that are too large for the page, are distorted and fuzzy, and/or are misaligned.
Taking the time to add a simple border and/or shadow to images gives a polished and professional look to any site. Keep images consistent in size and in proportion with the other graphics on the page. Additionally, wrapping text around images and dispersing pictures throughout copy, when appropriate, will dress up a site.
